Transmission Control Systems: Testing and Inspection
2-MODE HYBRID TRANSMISSION PRE-DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams.
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, you must thoroughly read and follow all High Voltage Safety procedures. In addition, before performing any diagnostic or service procedure near a high voltage component, you must perform the High Voltage Power Down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury Service Precautions
Perform the following before attempting any diagnostic procedure:
1. Check the 12-volt battery to avoid false diagnosis. Testing should only be performed with the battery fully charged.
2. With the scan tool check pinion factor (if equipped) for proper tire identification and program or reprogram if necessary.
3. Refer to any Service Information Tune Ups or Technical Service Bulletins that apply.
4. Check for controller software updates. Some conditions can be corrected by upgrading the controller software.
5. Visually inspect the Transmission and cooler lines for possible transmission fluid leaks. Locate and repair any fluid leaks and fill the transmission to the proper level. Many transmission symptoms can be caused by a low fluid level.
6. With the scan tool, read Engine (PCM) DTCs. If DTCs are present, refer to the DTC-Based Diagnostics section and perform to the appropriate PCM diagnostic procedure before proceeding.
7. With the scan tool, read HCP DTCs. If DTCs are present, refer to the DTC-Based Diagnostics section and perform to the appropriate diagnostic HCP procedure before proceeding.
8. With the scan tool, read Transmission (TCM) DTCs. Record all Stored, Active, and Pending DTC information. Diagnose any Pending DTC as a matured DTC.
9. With the scan tool, read and record the DTC Environmental Data. Use this data to identify the conditions in which the DTC originally set.
NOTE: Erasing DTCs will clear all Environmental Data. Recording the Environmental Data can assist in properly diagnosing the vehicle.
10. Use the wiring diagram as a guide. Inspect the wiring and connectors related to the Transmission. Repair as necessary.
Did any of the above procedures fix the vehicle?
Yes
- Test complete.
- Perform 2-MODE HYBRID TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST Transmission Verification Test.
No
- In the diagnostic procedure use the "When Monitored" and "Set Conditions" for the reported DTC.NOTE: DTCs can set at ignition on, at start up or driving under specific conditions in accessory mode and in either propulsion mode.
- Refer to the DTC Based Diagnostics section and perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.
