A/C - Hissing Noise With A/C ON

SUBJECT:
Hiss Sound When Air Conditioning Is In Use And/Or Black Patch Hanging/Laying On Carpet

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the A/C Expansion Valve and removing the black patch from the evaporator.

MODELS:

2009 (DS) Ram Truck

NOTE:
The bulletin applied to vehicles equipped with Air Conditioning (Sales Code HAA or HAF).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customer may complain that A/C system has a hiss or whistle sound while the A/C is operating. Customers may also notice a black patch hanging from under the dash (mounted on the bottom of the evaporator) or even laying on the carpet. The hiss or whistle sound is caused by the A/C expansion valve and the poor adhesion of the patch to the evaporator.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the above symptom/condition is experienced perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the black patch from the bottom of the evaporator in the passenger compartment.

NOTE:
The black patch may already be missing. The customer may have already thrown it out or been discarded during a previous service visit.

NOTE:
It may be necessary to clean the thick sticky tar like substance off the bottom of the evaporator.

NOTE:
It may be necessary to clean any marks left on the carpet from the black patch. Use Mopar carpet cleaner p/n 05175050AA.

2. Replace the expansion valve with p/n 68048806AB. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 24 - Heating & Air Conditioning > Plumbing > Valve, A/C Expansion Removal and Installation procedures.
