Ram Box Closing Effort High And/Or Inconsistent Gaps
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin provides a procedure for adjusting the lid of the Ram Box cargo bin for proper fit.
MODELS:
2009-2012 (DS) Ram 1500
2010-2012 (DJ) Ram 2500
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before January 30, 2012 (MDH 0130XX) equipped with Ram Box Cargo Management System (sales code XB9) on 6'4" Box (sales code 5ZE) equipped vehicles only.
DISCUSSION:
The Ram Box may have high closing effort or inconsistent gaps around the perimeter of the lid (Fig 1).
Ram Box Adjustment Process:
1. Open the Ram Box cargo bin lid (1) to gain access to its adjusting points (Fig 2).
2. Scribe the current location of the latch striker base (2) on the inside of the ram box at the locations shown (1) to establish a reference point (Fig. 3).
3. Loosen the two lower attaching nuts (4) and push them inward to loosen the studs from the plastic bin (Fig. 3).
4. Loosen the two upper attaching bolts slightly (3) in order to make the striker movable (Fig. 3).
5. Adjust the striker (2) as needed and retighten the upper and lower attaching fasteners (Fig. 4).
6. Recheck the fit of the lid to the box outer to achieve proper gap dimension indicated in Step # 7.
7. Repeat Step # 5 and Step # 6 until a uniform 5mm (+/- 2mm) gap is established (Fig. 5).
8. After adjusting the striker to achieve a nominal gap at the latch, the front and rear lid bumpers can be adjusted to obtain the proper support (Fig. 6).
NOTE:
The bumpers can be adjusted up or down with a 3mm hex wrench.
