Instrument Panel Pad - Removal
REMOVAL
Special Tools:
WARNING: Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE: Take the proper precautions to protect the front face of the instrument panel from cosmetic damage during this service procedure.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Using trim stick or equivalent, remove the lower cowl trim panel, Cowl Trim Panel - Removal. Repeat on opposite side.
3. Using trim stick or equivalent, remove the end cap (1) from the instrument panel. Repeat on opposite side.
4. Remove the shifter knob (1) and bezel (2).
5. Remove the screws (1) from the steering column opening cover. The screws are located near the hood release handle.
6. Remove the screw located on the outboard side attaching the steering column opening cover (1) to the instrument panel structure.
7. Using trim stick or equivalent, remove the steering column opening cover (1) from the instrument panel.
8. Remove the steering column as an assembly, Steering Column - Removal.
NOTE: Total disassembly of the steering column is not necessary.
9. Remove the gearshift cable (1, 2) from the shifter.
10. Remove the left and right side A-pillar trim panels (1), A-Pillar Trim Panel - Removal.
11. Using Trim Stick or equivalent, disengage the retaining tabs that secure the rear of the instrument panel top cover (1) to the instrument panel (2).
12. Pull the instrument panel top cover (1) rearward to disengage the retaining tabs at the front of the cover and remove the cover.
13. Remove the six fasteners (1) securing the instrument panel top pad to the structure.
14. Using Trim Stick or equivalent, remove the radio bezel (1).
15. Remove the radio (1).
16. Using Trim Stick or equivalent, remove the center bezel (2) from the instrument panel, disconnect the HVAC controls and clock.
17. Remove the two top pad to structure fasteners (1) located in the radio cavity area.
18. Remove the two top pad to structure fasteners (1) located in the HVAC control cavity area.
19. Remove the push-pin retainers (1) and screws that secure the silencer (3) to the passenger side of the instrument panel (2) and remove the silencer.
20. Remove the lower glove box (1), Instrument Panel Glove Box - Removal.
21. Open the upper glove box door.
22. Remove the fasteners (1) from the instrument panel trim bezel (2).
23. Using Trim Stick or equivalent, remove the trim bezel (2) from the instrument panel.
24. Remove the fasteners (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) from the upper glove box (1), Instrument Panel Glove Box - Removal.
25. Using Trim Stick or equivalent, remove the upper glove box (1) from the instrument panel.
26. If equipped, remove USB connector from the upper glove box.
27. Remove the fasteners (1, 2) from the upper glove box door (1).
28. Using Trim Stick or equivalent, remove the upper glove box door (1) from the instrument panel.
29. Remove the three top pad to structure fasteners (3) located in the upper glove box cavity area.
30. Remove the passenger side airbag,Passenger Air Bag - Removal.
31. Remove the fastener (1) from the front of the floor console.
32. Pull the floor console (2) forward to disengage the retaining tab (1) from the floor bracket (3).
33. Remove the front floor console.
34. Remove the four plastic retainers that secure the instrument panel bin (1) to the instrument panel.
35. Disconnect and remove the instrument panel bin (1).
36. Remove the fastener (4) securing the light switch to the instrument panel.
37. Using Trim Stick or equivalent, remove and disconnect the light switch.
38. Remove the fasteners (1, 2) securing the top pad to the structure. Repeat on opposite side.
39. Pull the instrument panel top pad (1) rearward to disengage the retaining clips that secure the top pad to the structure.
40. Lift upward and rearward to remove the instrument panel top pad (1) from the vehicle.
