Instrument Panel Bulb: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION

The cluster illumination is provided through the use of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps or Electro-Luminescent lamp (EL) units, and depends on the model of the vehicle. The Dodge base cluster uses LED lamps for general cluster illumination, while the Dodge premium and all Chrysler clusters use an EL lamp unit for general cluster illumination. The tell tale or warning lamp illumination is also provided through the use of LED lamps, while the automatic transmission gear selector position (PRNDL), odometer and cruise control illumination is provided through the use of Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD). Should any of the cluster illumination or tell tale illumination lamps fail, the cluster must be replaced. Should the cluster need to be replaced, please refer to Instrument Cluster - Removal.
