SUBJECT:
Flash: Avoid MIL Illumination For Any P0032, P0038, P0052, P0058, P0031, P0037, P0051, P0057

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves diagnosis and selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software that prevents the need to replace the PCM when the diagnostic trouble code (DIG's) listed below occur.

CAUTION:
If a customer's VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list and the vehicle is not reporting any of the DTC perform the repair procedure for "REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES THAT HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED MIL". If the vehicle has any of the DTC's perform the "DIAGNOSTIC" procedure.

MODELS:

2011 (RT) Caravan/Town and Country

NOTE:
This Service Bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine (Sales Code ERB).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customer may experience a MIL illumination. Upon further investigation the Technician may find that any of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes have been set.

i. P0032 - 02 Sensor 1/1 Heater Circuit High
ii. P0038 - 02 Sensor 1/2 Heater Circuit High
iii. P0052 - 02 Sensor 2/1 Heater Circuit High
iv. P0058 - 02 Sensor 2/2 Heater Circuit High
v. P0031 - 02 Sensor 1/1 Heater Circuit Low
vi. P0037 - 02 Sensor 1/2 Heater Circuit Low
vii. P0051 - 02 Sensor 2/1 Heater Circuit Low
viii. P0057 - 02 Sensor 2/2 Heater Circuit Low

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's other then the ones listed above are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

The PCM only needs to be replaced if 2 or more of the following DTC's are active or stored as a pair for circuit high in the list below:

^ P0032 - 02 Sensor 1/1 Heater Circuit High
^ P0038 - 02 Sensor 1/2 Heater Circuit High
^ P0052 - 02 Sensor 2/1 Heater Circuit High
^ P0058 - 02 Sensor 2/2 Heater Circuit High

Or if 2 or more of the following DTC's are active or stored as a pair for circuit low in the list below:

^ P0031 - 02 Sensor 1/1 Heater Circuit Low
^ P0037 - 02 Sensor 1/2 Heater Circuit Low
^ P0051 - 02 Sensor 2/1 Heater Circuit Low
^ P0057 - 02 Sensor 2/2 Heater Circuit Low

If a customer's VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, and the above DTC's have been identified to be a pair then perform the "REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE MIL".

PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES THAT HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED MIL:

NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures > PCM/ECM Programming. After PCM reprogramming, the following must be performed:

a. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.

b. On 62TE equipped vehicles clear the Variable Line Pressure (VLP) Counters, found in the Misc Function menu for the PCM ECU.

c. On 62TE equipped vehicles perform the Quick Learn function, found in the Misc Function menu for the TCM ECU.

2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label and attach it near the VECI label.
