SUBJECT:
Extreme Duty - Front Axle Skid Plate To Oil Pan Contact

OVERVIEW:
Inspect the oil pan and if necessary replace the front skid plate and oil pan.

MODELS:

2010-2011 DJ RAM 2500 Pickup

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with 6.7L Cummins(R) Turbo Diesel Engine (sales code ETJ) and TRX package (sales code AMW) built after September 01, 2009 MDH(0901XX) and built prior to September 23, 2010 MDH(0923XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The front axle skid plate may contact the oil pan during extreme off road usage.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the customer experiences the symptom/condition, proceed to the repair procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Raise the vehicle on a suitable hoist. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 04-Vehicle Quick Reference > Hoisting > Standard Procedure > Hoisting.





2. Inspect the oil pan (Fig. 1). Was there any wear, damage, scuff marks or did it appear the front skid plate could contact the oil pan if the vehicle exhibited a 2/3 suspension travel?

a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 4.

b. No >>> Continue further diagnosis, this bulletin does not apply.

3. Was there any extensive damage to the oil pan that it will require replacement?

a. Yes >>> Remove and Replace the oil pan. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 9-Engine, 6.7L Diesel > Lubrication > Pan, Oil > Removal/Installation.

b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 4.

4. Remove and Replace the front skid plate. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 13-Frame and Bumpers > Under Body Protection > Plate, Skid, Front > Removal/Installation.

5. Return the vehicle to the customer or dealer inventory.
