Engine Timing Cover(s) - Removal
REMOVAL
1. Lift the engine cover retaining grommets off the ball studs and remove the engine cover (2).
2. Perform the fuel pressure release procedure Service and Repair.
WARNING: Do not remove the radiator pressure cap, cylinder block drain plugs or loosen the radiator draincock with the system hot and under pressure. Serious burns from coolant can occur.
3. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable (1).
4. Drain the cooling system Service and Repair.
NOTE: Remove the intake manifold and throttle body as an assembly.
5. Remove the intake manifold Intake Manifold - Removal.
6. Remove upper radiator hose (2).
7. Remove the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector (2).
8. Remove the heater tube retaining bolt (1).
9. Lift the heater tube (3) out of the water pump.
10. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector (4).
11. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner (8) clockwise until it contacts the stop and remove the accessory drive belt (2), then slowly rotate the tensioner into the freearm position.
12. Remove accessory drive belt tensioner (8) and the idler pulley (6).
13. Remove the radiator Engine Cooling Radiator - Removal.
14. Remove the A/C condenser A/C Condenser - Removal.
15. Remove A/C compressor A/C Compressor - Removal.
16. Remove the generator Generator - Removal.
NOTE: When installing the puller tool, ensure the bolts are fully threaded through the entire crankshaft damper.
17. Remove the crankshaft damper retaining bolt.
18. Install the puller tool (2) making sure the bolts are fully threaded through the entire crankshaft damper and remove the crankshaft damper (1).
19. Raise and support the vehicle
20. Remove the belly pan retainers (1) and remove the belly pan.
21. Remove the lower radiator hose clamp and remove the lower radiator hose.
22. Drain the engine oil.
NOTE: When the oil pan is removed, a new oil pan gasket and the integral windage tray assembly must be installed, the old gasket cannot be reused.
23. Remove the oil pan Engine Oil Pan - Removal.
24. Remove the oil pump pickup tube retaining bolt and nut (1).
25. Remove the oil pump pickup tube (2).
26. Remove and discard the oil pan gasket/windage tray (3).
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove water pump for timing cover removal.
NOTE: 6.4L timing cover shown, 5.7L timing cover similar.
27. Lower the vehicle.
28. Remove the engine timing cover retaining bolts and remove the engine timing cover.
29. Verify that the engine timing cover slide bushings (1) remain located in the engine timing cover.
