U1414
U1414-IMPLAUSIBLE/MISSING ECU CONFIGURATION DATA
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
When powered, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) performs an internal self test. The repair of this fault does not involve any external circuitry and centers on verifying that the module is configured correctly for the vehicle's restraint system components.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on. The ORC on board diagnostics continuously monitors the CAN Bus message from the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) containing the ORC Configuration Data.
- Set Condition:
This DTC will set if the appropriate CAN Bus message is not received by the ORC.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraints System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure..
1. DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC
NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Is the DTC active or stored?
ORC - ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) OR OTHER CAN BUSS DTCS
- If other communication faults exist check the CAN BUS lines for a short to ground or open. If no communication faults exist and CAN lines are functional refer to Communication. Manufacturer Code Charts. Then recheck with the scan tool if the active fault still exists replace the TIPM.Go To 2
ORC - STORED DTC
- Check for Communication from the ORC or TIPM. No Response From ORC (Occupant Restraint Controller Module).
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Restraints System Intermittent Condition Test.
2. REPLACE THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM)
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Replace and program the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) - Removal.
3. Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector - use the most current software available.
4. Using the scan tool, erase all codes in the ORC.
NOTE: The ORC Reset Function must be performed after the repair to force the module to retest for this DTC
5. Perform ORC module reset. Access the Miscellaneous Function menu from the ORC ECU Overview screen on the scan tool to perform this operation.
6. Wait one minute, and read active codes.
Does the U1414-Implausible/Missing ECU Configuration Data DTC return?
Yes
- WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC. Occupant Restraint Controller - Removal.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
No
- Repair Complete.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
