Poor Or No Satellite Audio Reception
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - POOR OR NO SATELLITE AUDIO RECEPTION
Special Tools:
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
1. CHECK THE ANTENNA CONNECTION
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Satellite Antenna yellow connector at the TGW.
3. Inspect the Satellite Antenna connection.
Is the Antenna connection clean and secure?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Repair the Antenna connection as needed.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
2. CHECK THE TGW
1. Connect the (9977-6-SAT) to the antenna connection on the back of the TGW.
2. Place the magnetic antenna on the roof of the vehicle.
3. Drive the vehicle outside to a clear un-obstructed overhead view.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. Turn the TGW on and set it to Satellite band.
6. Tune into several Satellite stations.
Is the Satellite reception still poor or not available?
Yes
- Replace the TGW. Telematics Gateway Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- Go To 3
3. TEST THE ANTENNA BASE
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Remove the headliner rear center header trim panel.
NOTE: Be extremely careful not to pull too hard on the headliner which could cause it to be damaged.
3. Disconnect the yellow Antenna cable connector (2) at the base.
4. Connect the (9977-6-SAT) to the yellow Antenna cable connector at the antenna base.
5. Place the magnetic antenna on the roof of the vehicle.
6. Drive the vehicle outside to a clear un-obstructed overhead view.
7. Turn the ignition on.
8. Turn the TGW on and set it to Satellite band.
9. Tune into several Satellite stations.
Is the Satellite reception still poor or not available?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the Satellite Antenna base. Satellite Radio Antenna - Removal
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
4. TEST THE ANTENNA CABLE
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the (9977-6-SAT) from the Antenna cable.
3. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-4) (1) or (9977-6-2) (1) to the Antenna cable (2) at the antenna base.
4. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-1) (1) or (9977-6-3) (1) to the Antenna cable (2) at the back of the TGW.
5. Measure the Resistance across the tool terminals.
Is the resistance above 52.5 or below 47.5 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- The source of the poor reception is not caused by the TGW, Antenna cable or the Antenna base.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
5. TEST THE ANTENNA CABLE FROM THE TGW TO INLINE CONNECTOR
1. Disconnect the appropriate (9977-6-4) or (9977-6-2) from the Antenna cable at the antenna base.
2. Remove the Right cowl trim panel to access the Satellite antenna inline connector and disconnect it.
3. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-4) (1) or (9977-6-2) (2) to the side of the Antenna cable (2) that leads to the TGW.
4. Measure the Resistance across the tool terminals.
Is the resistance above 52.5 or below 47.5 Ohms?
Yes
- Replace the antenna cable from the TGW to inline connector.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- Go To 6
6. TEST THE ANTENNA CABLE FROM THE INLINE CONNECTOR TO THE ANTENNA BASE
1. Disconnect the appropriate (9977-6-1) or (9977-6-3) from the rear of the TGW.
2. Disconnect the appropriate (9977-6-4) (1) or (9977-6-2) (1) from the side of the Antenna cable (2) that leads to the TGW.
3. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-1) (1) or (9977-6-3) (1) to the Antenna cable (2) at the antenna base.
4. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-4) (1) or (9977-6-2) (1) to the side of the Antenna cable (2) that leads to the Antenna base.
5. Measure the Resistance across the tool terminals.
Is the resistance above 52.5 or below 47.5 Ohms?
Yes
- Replace the antenna cable from the inline connector to the antenna base.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- The source of the poor reception is not caused by the TGW, Antenna cable or the Antenna base.
