Stop Lamp Switch - Installation
INSTALLATION
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
1. Depress and hold the brake pedal in the depressed position.
2. Position the brake pedal position sensor to the sensor bracket on the brake pedal support bracket (1).
3. Engage the sensor locating pin (5) into the locating hole in the sensor bracket.
4. Install and tighten the screw (4) that secures the sensor to the sensor bracket. Tighten the screw securely.
CAUTION: Brake booster damage may occur if the brake pedal pull exceeds about 9 kilograms (20 pounds).
5. Release the brake pedal. Then pull the pedal lightly upward to be certain the pedal is in its normal at-rest position.
NOTE: Be certain the brake pedal position sensor is fully seated in the sensor bracket before completing the electrical connection.
6. Reconnect the body wire harness connector (2) to the connector receptacle on the sensor (1).
7. If equipped, reinstall the silencer pad below the steering column. Lower Silencer Panel - Installation.
8. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
NOTE: Whenever the brake pedal position sensor is removed and reinstalled or replaced with a new unit, it is necessary for the Controller Antilock Brake (CAB) (also known as the Antilock Brake Module/ABM or Antilock Brake System/ABS module) to calibrate the reinstalled or the new sensor. Follow the programming steps outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for the "ABS Initialize" routine under "Miscellaneous Functions" for the "ABS Module" menu item as appropriate.
