VEHICLES NOT INCLUDED IN THE RRT VIN LIST, APPLICATION OF THIS SERVICE

SUBJECT:
Tailgate Opening (D-Pillar) Paint Delaminating

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting and if necessary refinishing the right and/or left tailgate opening (d-pillar).

MODELS:
2012 (DS) 1500 Pickup

NOTE:
This applies to vehicles built after June 22, 2012 (MDH0622XX) and before June 25, 2012 (MDH0625XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Tailgate opening (d-pillar) paint delaminating.

DIAGNOSIS:
If a customers VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition, perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:





1. Inspect the right and left tailgate opening (d-pillar). Is the paint delaminated as shown in (Fig. 1)?

a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 2.

b. No >>> This bulletin does not apply, return the vehicle to customer or dealer inventory.

2. Remove the tailgate. Refer to the detail service procedures available in: DealerConnect> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 23-Body> Exterior>Decklid/Hatch/Liftgate/Tailgate> Tailgate> Removal.

3. Remove the right and/or left upper bed rail cover (if equipped).

4. Remove the right and/or left tailgate striker.

5. Remove the right and/or left rear tail lamp. Refer to the detail service procedures available in: DealerConnect> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 08-Electrical> 8L-Lamps and Lighting> Lamps and Lighting - Exterior> Lamp, Tail Stop Turn> Removal>Lamp.

6. Wash the left and/or right inner bed side assembly with soap and water to remove all dirt and debris.

7. Sand the suspect area that will be refinished with 500 grit sandpaper or finer.

8. Mask and protect the adjacent panels of the vehicle.

9. Refinish the inner tailgate opening area per your approved refinish paint suppliers recommendations.








NOTE:
Chrysler approved refinish paint suppliers are identified below.

10. Once the paint has cured and all masking protection has been removed, install the right and/or left rear tail lamp. Refer to the detail service procedures available in:
DealerConnect>TechCONNECT under: Service Info>08-Electrical>8L- Lamps and Lighting>Lamps and Lighting - Exterior>Lamp, Tail Stop Turn> Installation>Lamp.

11. Install the right and/or left tailgate striker.

12. Install the right and/or left upper bed rail cover.

13. Install the tailgate. Refer to the detail service procedures available in: DealerConnect>TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 23-Body> Exterior>Decklid/Hatch/Liftgate/Tailgate> Tailgate> Installation.
