Instrument Panel - Removal






REMOVAL

Special Tools:











WARNING:
Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

NOTE:
Take the proper precautions to protect the front face of the instrument panel from cosmetic damage during this service procedure.

NOTE:
LHD model shown in illustrations. RHD model similar.

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the shifter knob, Gearshift Knob - Removal.

3. Using (C-4755) or equivalent, remove the lower cowl trim panel, Cowl Trim Panel - Removal. Repeat on opposite side.

4. Using (C-4755) or equivalent, remove the end cap (1) from the instrument panel. Repeat on opposite side.





5. Remove the screws (1) from the steering column opening cover. The screws are located near the hood release handle.





6. Remove the screw located on the outboard side attaching the steering column opening cover (1) to the instrument panel structure.

7. Using (C-4755) or equivalent, remove the steering column opening cover (1) from the instrument panel.





8. Remove the steering column as an assembly, Steering Column - Removal.

NOTE:
Total disassembly of the steering column is not necessary.








9. Remove the gearshift cable (1, 2) from the shifter.





10. Remove the left and right side A-pillar trim panels (1), A-Pillar Trim Panel - Removal.





11. Disconnect the wire harness connector(s) (1) located on the left A-pillar and disengage the instrument panel wire harness retainers from the A-pillar.





12. Disconnect the wire harness connectors (1, 2) located on the right A-pillar and disengage the instrument panel wire harness retainers from the A-pillar.





13. Using (C-4755) or equivalent, disengage the retaining tabs that secure the rear of the instrument panel top cover (1) to the instrument panel (2).

14. Pull the instrument panel top cover (1) rearward to disengage the retaining tabs at the front of the cover and remove the cover.





15. Remove the seven bolts (3) that secure the front of the instrument panel (2) to the top of the dash panel (1).





16. Remove the two screws (1) that secure the defroster duct (2) to the top of the instrument panel cover (3).





17. Using (C-4755) or equivalent, remove the radio bezel (1).





18. Remove the radio (1).

19. Using (C-4755) or equivalent, remove the center bezel (2) from the instrument panel, disconnect the HVAC controls and clock.





20. Remove the push-pin retainers (1) and screws that secure the silencer (3) to the passenger side of the instrument panel (2) and remove the silencer.





21. Remove the lower glove box (1), Instrument Panel Glove Box - Removal.





22. Open the upper glove box door.

23. Remove the fasteners (1) from the instrument panel trim bezel (2).

24. Using (C-4755) or equivalent, remove the trim bezel (2) from the instrument panel.





25. Remove the fasteners (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) from the upper glove box (1), Instrument Panel Glove Box - Removal.

26. Using (C-4755) or equivalent, remove the upper glove box (1) from the instrument panel.

27. If equipped, remove USB connector from the upper glove box.





28. Remove the fasteners (1, 2) from the upper glove box door (1).

29. Using (C-4755) or equivalent, remove the upper glove box door (1) from the instrument panel.





30. Remove the fastener (1) from the front of the floor console.





31. Pull the floor console (2) forward to disengage the retaining tab (1) from the floor bracket (3).

32. Remove the front floor console.





33. Remove the four plastic retainers that secure the instrument panel bin (1) to the instrument panel.

34. Disconnect and remove the instrument panel bin (1).





35. Disconnect the harness connectors (1, 2) from the occupant restraint controller (ORC) located on the floor panel at the center of the instrument panel support, Occupant Restraint Controller - Removal.





36. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness from the HVAC wire harness connector (1).





37. Remove the bolt (1) that secures the passenger side of the HVAC air distribution housing (4) to the underside of the instrument panel support (3).





38. Remove the bolt (1) that secures the passenger side end of the HVAC housing (3) to the underside of the instrument panel support (2).





39. Remove the bolt (1) that secures the driver side of the HVAC air distribution housing (2) to the underside of the instrument panel support (3).





40. Remove the bolt (1) that secures the HVAC housing (2) to the front of the instrument panel support (3), near the lower center of the instrument panel.





41. Disconnect the antenna harness (1) located on the passenger side of the vehicle.





42. Disconnect the I/P to vehicle harness (1) located on the passenger side of the vehicle.





43. Remove the data link (1).





44. Remove the two fastener (2) from the hood release handle (1).There is one fastener on each side of the handle.

45. Remove the hood release handle (1).





46. Remove the fasteners (2) from the instrument panel lower reinforcement (1).

47. Reposition the instrument panel lower reinforcement (1).





48. Disconnect the wiring harness (1) on the driver side located near the instrument panel lower reinforcement (1).





49. Remove the wire harness ground bolt (2) from the underside of the instrument panel structure (1) located to the lower left side of the center stack.

50. Reposition the wire harness (3).





NOTE:
Removal/Installation of the instrument panel will require the help of an assistant.

51. Remove the bolts (1) securing the instrument panel to upper cowl panel. Repeat on opposite side.





52. Remove the bolts (2) supporting the instrument panel support (1) to the instrument panel center support bracket. Repeat on the opposite side.

53. Disengage the retaining tab that secures the top of each instrument panel center support bracket to the instrument panel support.





54. Lift the instrument panel (1) upward to disengage the retaining tab that secures each end of the instrument panel to the cowl side panels.

55. Remove the instrument panel (1) from the vehicle.
