OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing steel wheels
MODELS:
2013 (JC) Journey
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to 35 vehicles equipped with 17" X 6.5" steel wheels (sales code WFU) built on March 27, 2013 only, vehicles built outside of March 27, 2013 are not affected by this field action.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Steel wheel can develop a small leak.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the vehicle is one of the affected, replace all four steel wheels. If a customers VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Record which corner of the vehicle each assembly was originally installed (i.e. RF, LF, RR, LR) by notation on the tire before removal from vehicle. Please insure the same tire is installed back to each corner of the vehicle.
2. Remove all four wheel and tire assemblies from the vehicle. Refer to the detailed service information in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > Service Information tab > 22-Tire and Wheels > Removal.
3. Dismount tires from suspect wheels by using the appropriate tire mounting equipment.
4. Refurbish the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring sensor) by installing a new rubber stem (only) to the sensor assembly. Refer to the detailed service information in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > Service Information tab > 22-Tire and Wheels > Tire Pressure Monitoring > Sensor, Tire Pressure Monitoring > Removal.
5. Install the refurbished TPMS into the new wheel. Refer to the detailed service information in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > Service Information tab > 22-Tire and Wheels > Tire Pressure Monitoring > Sensor, Tire Pressure Monitoring > Installation.
6. Mount tire to the "new" wheel taking care to align the stickers within 1" of each other on both the wheel & tire (Fig. 1).
7. Inflate the assembly to 42 psi until vehicle is delivered to customer.
NOTE:
At delivery, reduce inflation pressure to the level found on the placard label of the vehicle.
8. Balance the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to the detailed service information in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > Service Information tab > 22-Tire and Wheels > Tire and Wheel Balance.
9. Install the tire/wheel assemblies to the vehicle with the match marking at the 12 o'clock position. Refer to the detailed service information in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > Service Information tab > 22-Tire and Wheels > Installation.
10. Install the wheel cover aligning the valve stem notch with the valve stem.
11. Hand start the 5 lug nuts to the wheel/tire assembly with the wheel cover in place.
NOTE:
Secure the lug nuts so the wheel is tight against the mounting surface of the brake rotor.
12. Lower the vehicle and torque all wheel fasteners to 130 N-m (96 ft-lbs.) in a star pattern using a torque wrench.
