Radio - Description

DESCRIPTION

The Radio Receiver Module (RRM) also referred to as radio, and head unit, can be identified by sales codes RA1, RA2, RA3, and RA4. There are two distinct chassis designs for the Radio Receiver Module (RRM). The RRM manufactured by Continental has the chassis attached to the face plate like the similar traditional radio design. The RRM manufactured by Harman has the electronics mounted parallel to the face plate in an aluminum chassis. The connection points for all systems are the same regardless of configuration.

The RA1 radio uses a four line, LCD, non-touchscreen display with hard keys around the panel and a remote mounted media hub with an auxiliary input jack. If equipped, the CD player is externally mounted. The rear of the radio will have one antenna connector for AM/FM and one for satellite radio, if equipped. The Uconnect system with an RA1 radio does not include or support hands free phone connectivity.

- Satellite radio (optional)

- Remote CD player (optional)

The RA2 radio uses a 5 inch touchscreen with hard keys on the faceplate. RA2 radios with control knobs have an integrated center stack that allows the HVAC system to be controlled with the touchscreen, or the redundant controls. There is no external hands free module, all hands free functions are integrated into the radio. Some vehicles are equipped with a version of the RA2 radio that includes an optional remote CD player and AUX port. A remote mounted media port contains access for USB media players and an SD card slot, if equipped.

The RA3 and RA4 radios are identified by the 8.4 inch color touch screen display. There are no visible differences between the RA3 and RA4 with the unit turned off. However, on vehicles sold in the US, the RA4 offers high definition radio and can be identified by the HD symbol located on the screen when the radio, is in radio mode. If the radio will not power up then the only way to identify the system is direct VIN inquiry through Dealer Connect.
