Horn Switch - Description

DESCRIPTION

The horn switch for this vehicle consists of four individual sets of normally open contacts wired in parallel so that all four sets of contacts operate as one switch. The horn switch contacts (2) are secured to, but insulated from the cast metal hub area of the steering wheel armature and also serve as supports for the stamped metal rear housing of the Driver AirBag (DAB).

Each of the horn switch contacts is secured within a rectangular mounting hole in the steering wheel armature by an integral plastic split post snap latch (3). Each contact contains a small coiled spring that holds the switch contacts open, while an integral pigtail wire harness (1) connects all four sets of switch contacts to each other. A dedicated take out and connector of the steering wheel wire harness connects the horn switch contacts to the vehicle electrical system through a single harness connector (4) integral to the switch contact pigtail wire harness.

The four horn switch contacts that make up the horn switch unit cannot be adjusted or repaired. If any one of the four switch contacts is ineffective or damaged, the entire set of four must be replaced as a single switch unit.
