Output Diagnostic Test Mode (Circuit Actuation Tests)

The purpose of the circuit actuation test mode is to check for the proper operation of output circuits of devices which the SMEC cannot internally recognize. The SMEC can attemp to activate these outputs and allow an observer to verify proper operation. Most of the tests available in this mode provide an audible or visual indication of device operation (click of relay contacts, spray of fuel, etc.) With the exception of an intermittent condition, if a device functions properly during its test, it can be assumed that the device, its associated wiring, and its driver circuit are in working order.

1. Connect tester C-4805 or equivalent and access fault codes.
2. Wait until Code 55 has been displayed indicating end of fault code display.
3. Depress ATM button on tool to activate display, holding button down until desired display code appears.
4. The computer will continue to turn the selected circuit on and off for as long as five minutes or until the ATM button is pressed again or if the ignition switch is turned Off.
5. If the ATM button is not pressed again, the computer will continue cycling the selected circuit for five minutes and then shut the system off. Turning the ignition switch off will also shut the test mode off.
6. Each display code will activate a specific current as follows:
a. 01--Spark activation once every 2 seconds.
b. 02--Injector activation once every 2 seconds.
c. 03--AIS activation; one step open/one step closed every 4 seconds.
d. 04--Radiator fan relay activation once every 2 seconds.
e. 05--A/C WOT relay activation once every 2 seconds.
f. 06--ASD relay activation once every 2 seconds.
g. 07--Purge solenoid activation; one toggle every 2 seconds.
h. 08--Speed Control Activation; with switch in On position, speed control vent and vacuum every 2 seconds.
i. 09--Alternator field control activation; one toggle every 2 seconds.
j. 10--Shift indicator lamp (manual) or PTU solenoid (auto) activation; one toggle every two seconds.
j. 11--4 speed overdrive override solenoid toggled every 2 seconds.
j. 12--Air switching solenoid toggled every 2 seconds.
j. 13--EGR solenoid toggled every 2 seconds.

7. If selected circuit fails to operate, check continuity of wiring and operation of individual components and repair or replace as needed.
8. To stop test cycle, either depress ATM button to move to the next circuit or turn Off ignition.
