Removal and Replacement

The transaxle and converter must be removed as an assembly to prevent damage to torque converter driveplate, pump bushing and oil seal. The driveplate will not support a load. Do not allow weight of transaxle to rest on driveplate.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect throttle linkage and shift control linkage from transaxle.
3. Remove both upper and lower oil cooler hoses.
4. Disconnect lock-up torque converter plug, if equipped, located near dipstick.
5. Support engine with suitable engine lifting equipment.
6. Remove bellhousing upper attaching bolts.
7. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels and left splash shield.
8. Remove wheel hub nut and driveshafts.
9. Remove torque converter dust cover, then mark torque converter and driveplate for reference during reassembly.
10. Remove torque converter attaching bolts. Remove plug from access hole in right splash shield to rotate crankcase for bolt removal.
11. Disconnect Neutral/Park switch electrical connector.
12. Remove engine mount bracket from front crossmember, then the front mount insulator through bolt and attaching bolts.
13. Position suitable jack under transaxle, then remove left engine mount.
14. Remove starter, then the remaining bellhousing attaching bolts.
15. Move transaxle away from engine and lower from vehicle.
16. Reverse procedure to install.
