Drum Brake System: Tools and Equipment

BASIC SERVICE
- Jack or lifting device.
- Safety stands.
- Lug nut wrench.
- Bleeding device;
- Pressure bleeder or
- Vacuum bleeder or
- One-man brake bleeder kit or
- Length of clear plastic hose (3/16 inch ID) and a glass jar.

Brake Bleeding Setup:

- Brake spring removal and installation tools:

Hold-down Spring Tool:

Return Spring Tool:

- Brake adjusting tool, and a small screw driver (used to lift the pawl when retracting the shoes/linings).
- Torque wrench (0-120 lb. ft.).
- Complete set of combination wrenches or sockets.
- Drum brake micrometer (for measuring drum diameter).

Drum Micrometer:

- Drip pan.
- Clean shop towels.

IF WHEEL-CYLINDER OVERHAUL IS REQUIRED
- Wheel cylinder hone.
- Feeler gauge set (for measuring clearance between piston and bore).
