Steering Gear: Description and Operation
The Constant Control Full Time
Power Steering consists of a hydraulic pressure pump, a power steering gear and connecting hoses. The power steering gear consists of a gear housing, containing a gear shaft and sector shaft, a power piston with gear teeth milled into the side of the piston which is in constant mesh with the gear shaft sector teeth, and a worm shaft which connects the
steering wheel to the power unit piston through a coupling. The worm shaft is geared to the piston through recirculating ball contact, and the
steering valve which is mounted on top of the
steering gear directs system fluid flow.
