DISCUSSION:

After replacing a fuel pump it is necessary to check and/or replace the fuel filter.

The filter must be checked after the fuel pump is replaced by using the fuel-pressure test procedures outlined in group 14 of the appropriate service manual. If the pressure drop across the fuel filter exceeds 5 psi, the fuel filter must be replaced.

Failure to replace the fuel filter when the pressure drop exceeds 5 psi may cause the replacement pump to malfunction or fail prematurely.

NOTE:
IF THE VEHICLE IS A FLEX FUEL VEHICLE (FFV), ALWAYS REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER WHENEVER THE FUEL PUMP IS REPLACED.
