Sector Shaft Overcenter
1. With gear on center, loosen locknut and tighten sector shaft lash adjuster screw.2. Retighten locknut and measure gear overcenter torque.
3. Rotating torque wrench in a 90° arc on each side of center and note the highest reading.
4. Continue adjusting and checking until overcenter reading is within limits.
5. Overcenter torque of a new gear should show an increase of 4-8 inch lbs. over thrust bearing adjustment, but total must not exceed 18 inch lbs.
6. Overcenter torque of a used gear should be 4-5 inch lbs. increase, but not exceed 14 inch lbs. on 1987-89 models and 18 inch lbs. on 1990-92 models, in total.
