Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair
Throttle Position Sensor R & R:
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) wiring connector.
4. Remove the mounting screws (2), and remove TPS from throttle shaft.
NOTE: When installing the throttle position sensor, ensure that the electrical socket is pointed up. The throttle position sensor has a socket in it shaped like the end of the throttle shaft so that the shaft can fit inside the TPS. The TPS, when installed correctly, should be able to be slightly rotated to align the sensor holes to the throttle body mounting holes. (If the TPS will not rotate, install the sensor with the throttle shaft on the other side of the socket tangs). The TPS will be under slight tension after it has been installed.
5. Install new TPS on throttle shaft and install screws, torquing them to 27 lbs. in. (3 N-m).
6. Connect the TPS wiring connector.
7. Install air cleaner assembly.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
