Removal and Installation

Fig. 1 Gearshift Lever Removal:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove gear shift lever.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove transfer case (if equipped). Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Transfer Case/Service and Repair.
5. Disconnect all electrical connectors from transmission.
6. Remove front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
7. Remove exhaust pipe brackets from transmission assembly.
8. Support engine and transmission assemblies, using suitable jacks.
9. Disconnect speedometer cable from transmission.
10. Remove crossmember.
11. If not removed previously, remove driveshaft.
12. Remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.
13. Lower transmission from vehicle.
14. Reverse procedure to install.
