Drive Pinion & Bearing Retainer

DISASSEMBLY

1. Using a suitable tool, remove roller bearing from pinion shaft.
2. Remove snap ring, washer and pilot rollers from gear bore.
3. Using a puller, remove bearing race from front bearing retainer.
4. Remove pinion shaft seal.

ASSEMBLY

When assembling subassemblies, use new expansion plugs, gaskets and seals. Lubricate all parts with clean transmission lubricant. Where grease is recommended, use oil soluble grease. Ensure oil return passages are not obstructed with grease.

1. Using an arbor press and a wooden block placed on pinion gear, press gear into bearing until it contacts bearing inner race.
2. Coat roller bearings with a light coat of grease to hold rollers in place and insert into pocket of drive pinion.
3. Install washer and snap ring.
4. Press seal into bearing retainer. Ensure lip of seal is toward mounting plate.
5. Press bearing race into retainer.
