Retarded Timing
RETARDED TIMING
Retarded timing (ignition occurs later) increases the heat output of the engine and may lead to an overheating condition.
With the spark occurring late, less heat energy from the combustion process is converted into mechanical energy, this results in a higher combustion temperature.
SYMPTOMS
Vehicle performance will be sluggish.
HOW TO VERIFY
Check ignition timing and adjust if necessary.
CAUTION: Advancing the ignition timing beyond the specification creates higher combustion pressures and may result in detonation (pinging) or severe engine damage.
