Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove left and righthand kick panel trim.
2. Remove five screws from knee blocker, then the knee blocker.

3. Remove four instrument panel support screws, then the support.
4. Unplug air bag squib at lower lefthand corner of instrument panel.

5. Remove PRND21 cable from position arm, then push tab on bottom of cable retainer up and squeeze sides to remove retainer from column.
6. Remove tilt wheel lever, then remove upper, lower and lower fixed column shrouds.

7. Loosen connector screw, then remove switch connectors. Screw will remain in connector.
8. Remove squib harness from wiring trough, then the wiring trough from steering column.

9. Remove three toe plate nuts and washers, then the two nuts and washers attaching steering column bracket to instrument panel steering column support bracket.
10. Lower column and rest on seat, then remove two screws from bottom of Air bag Control Module (ACM) cover.
11. Remove four screws holding ACM to transmission tunnel, then disconnect wiring at ACM and the left side wiring.
12. Remove two screws holding brake release to bottom instrument panel.
13. Disconnect two connectors attached to heater A/C housing, courtesy lamp connector, antenna cable and two body connectors.
14. Remove five screws holding instrument panel to dash, then loosen lower instrument panel pivot bolts and roll instrument panel downward.
15. Disconnect vacuum harness for heater A/C system.

16. Using suitable screwdriver or pointed tool, push through plastic flashing to release locking tab on heater-A/C control cable, then pull cable from top of heater core housing.
17. Remove instrument panel from vehicle.
18. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque instrument panel upper mounting screws to 9 ft. lbs.
b. Torque instrument panel pivot bolts to 17 inch lbs.
c. Torque steering column shroud screws to 20 inch lbs.
d. Torque steering column bracket nuts to 9 ft. lbs.
e. Torque toe plate nuts to 17 ft lb.
f. Torque multi-function switch connector screw to 17 inch lbs.
g. Torque ACM mounting bolts to 9 ft lb.
19. Ensure all wiring is clear and not pinched.
