Fuel Tank Purge Procedure

PREPARATION
1. Remove the fuel tank from vehicle.
2. Remove fuel level sending unit, and the fuel pump assembly from the tank.
3. Drain all remaining fuel from tank. (Visually inspect the interior of the tank, and if any fuel is visible, drain again.

PURGE PROCEDURE
1. Move the tank to a suitable flushing area.
2. Fill the tank completely with tap water, agitate vigorously and drain.
3. Add a fuel emulsifying agent to the tank, refill with water, agitate the mixture for 10 minutes, and drain the tank completely.
4. When empty, refill the tank until it is overflowing with water. Completely flush out the remaining mixture and empty the tank.

NOTE: If available, an explosion meter should be used to check for a negative reading.

5. Perform the required service work.
