Fluid and filter changes or band adjustments are not required for average passenger car use. Severe usage such as police, taxi, trailer towing or prolonged operation in city traffic, requires that fluid and filter be changed and bands adjusted every 24,000 miles on Jeep models, and every 15,000 miles for Chrysler Motors vehicles. Consult owners' manual for specific mileage. Whenever the factory fill fluid is changed, only fluids of the type labeled DEXRON II should be used.

1. Remove drain plug (if equipped) from transmission oil pan and allow oil to drain.

NOTE: If the oil pan does not have a drain plug, loosen pan bolts and tap pan with a soft mallet to break it loose, permitting fluid to drain.

2. Remove transmission oil pan, replace filter or clean intake screen and pan, adjust bands and reinstall.
3. Install specified amount of approved automatic transmission fluid through filler tube.
4. Start engine and add approximately one quart while engine is idling.
5. Allow engine to idle for about two minutes. Then with parking brake applied, place transmission in neutral.
6. Add oil as necessary to bring to proper level.
