Component Inspection
NOTE: A visual check can save unnecessary test and diagnostic time.1. Inspect for any obviously loose, disconnected, or misrouted wires and hoses.
2. Ensure battery connections are clean and tight.
3. Verify that generator wiring and belt are correctly installed and tightened.
4. Verify engine grounds are attached correctly.
5. Verify ignition cables are in correct order and seated into place.
6. Check the electrical connection at the PCM for damaged or spread terminals. Verify connector is fully inserted into the PCM socket. Ensure that wires are not stretched or pulled out of the connector.
7. Verify engine harness to main harness connections are fully inserted.
8. Verify all electrical connectors are fully inserted into relays.
9. Check the following electrical connections;
- Vehicle Speed Sensor
- Heated Oxygen Sensor
- Coolant Temperature Sensor.
- Oil Pressure Switch
- Ignition Coil
- Canister Purge Solenoid
- MAP Sensor
- Throttle Body Wiring To Main Harness
- Idle Air Control (IAC) Motor
- Throttle Position Sensor
- Fuel Injector
- Neutral Safety Switch (Auto Trans Only)
- Torque Convertor Lockup Solenoid (Auto Trans Only)
10. Check routing of all vacuum hoses. Refer to the vacuum schematic on the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label.
11. Verify that the following vacuum connections are secure and not leaking;
- MAP Sensor
- Canister Purge Solenoid
- Vapor Canister
- PCV System
- Throttle Body
- Power Brake And Speed Control
12. Check Hose and Wiring Connections at Fuel Pump. Ensure connector is making contact with terminals on pump.
