1/1 O2 Sensor Shorted to Voltage

1/1 UPSTREAM

Name of Code:
O2 Sensor Shorted To Voltage

When Monitored:
With the engine running for more than 4 minutes after coolant temperature reaches 180°F

Set Condition:
The oxygen sensor voltage is above 1.5 volts.

Theory of Operation:
Effective control of exhaust emissions is achieved by an oxygen feedback system. The oxygen sensor (O2S), which is located in the exhaust path, monitors the exhaust emissions. Once the sensor reaches its normal operating temperature of 300° - 350°C (572° - 662°F), it generates a voltage inversely proportional to the amount of oxygen in the exhaust.

Possible Causes:
- Sensor output wire shorted to a power circuit
- O2 sensor failure
- Connector terminals
- Connector wires
- Open O2 sensor signal circuit
- Suspect O2 heater circuit
- Powertrain control module failure
