SAFETY RECALL F43 - TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOGIC

MODELS:

2007 (KA) Dodge Nitro (built through August 9, 2006 - MDH 08-09-16).

2007 (KJ) Jeep(R) Liberty (built through August 9, 2006 - MDH 08-09 -16).

2007 (DR) Dodge Ram Pick Up Truck (1500 Series) (built at the St.Louis North assembly plant through August 9, 2006 - MDH 08-09-15).

2007 (HB) Dodge Durango (built through August 14, 2006 - MDH 08-14-06).

2007 (LX) Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum and Charger (built through August 10, 2006 - MDH 08-10-17).

2007 (ND) Dodge Dakota (built through August 14, 2006 - MDH 08-14-03).

NOTE:
This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 42RLE transmission.

IMPORTANT:
Many of the vehicles within the above build periods have already been inspected or repaired and, therefore, have been excluded from this recall.

^ The software programmed into the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on about 350 of the above vehicles may allow the transmission to shift into first gear if the operator shifts from "Drive" to "Neutral" and back into the "Drive" position. A shift into first gear at speeds above 65 km/h (40 mph) could cause a momentary lock up of the drive wheels, which can result in a crash without prior warning.

^ To correct this condition, the PCM must be reprogrammed. - Authorized Modification Label #04275086AB required.

Global Recall System (GRS) has been developed to provide dealers with an up-to-date list of involved vehicles by recall number and by dealer code. Owners known to DaimlerChrysler are also listed. Involved vehicles will be removed from GRS within several days of submitting repair claims.

To use the GRS in DealerCONNECT, you first need to click on the "Service" tab and then in the Reports and Information section click on "Global Recall System". Your dealer's VIN list for each recall displayed can be sorted by: VIN sequence, city, postal code, phone number or those vehicles that according to our records were unsold at time of the recall launch.
