Instrument Panel Lamp

REMOVAL

WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

NOTE: The Light Emitting Diode (LED) and printed circuit board for these lamps are serviced only as a unit with the courtesy lamp assembly. If any part of these lamps is damaged or ineffective, the entire lamp assembly must be replaced.

1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. If the vehicle is so equipped, remove the closeout panel from under the driver or passenger side of the instrument panel. Lower Silencer Panel - Removal.
3. Reach under the lower edge of the instrument panel steering column opening (driver side) or glove box opening (passenger side) lower reinforcement (1) to access and pry the push-in plastic retainer on the underside of the courtesy lamp (3) out of the mounting hole in the instrument panel lower reinforcement.
4. Pull the courtesy lamp down from behind the instrument panel far enough to access and disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector (2) from the connector receptacle integral to the courtesy lamp.
5. Remove the courtesy lamp from the vehicle.
