SUBJECT:
FOBIK Buttons Are Inoperative Or FOBIK Buttons Require Excessive Force To Function

OVERVIEW:
This Bulletin involves inspecting and replacing the vehicle FOBIK if necessary.

MODELS:

2011 (WD) Durango

2011 (WK) Grand Cherokee

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to WD, and WK vehicles built between May 4, 2011 (MDH 0504XX) and June 20, 2011 (MDH 0620XX) equipped with Keyless Go (sales code GX4).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may complain that the FOBIK buttons do not function or that they require excessive force in order to function.

DIAGNOSIS:
Excess solder mask material on the FOBIK printed circuit board may cause a condition where greater than expected force is required to initiate FOBIK button function. The force required to initiate button function is measured at greater than 2.2 pounds force (10 newtons) on a FOBIK with excessive solder mask material. As scientific measurement tools are not typically available in the dealer environment, a subjective assessment based upon your past experience with Chrysler FOBIKs is required.

1. Has the customer/operator reported no operation, or intermittent operation, of the FOBIK buttons?

a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 2

b. No >>> This bulletin does not apply. Further diagnosis is required.

2. Will the FOB 1K button(s) function when a force notably greater than that normally required for FOBIK operation is applied, but they will not function with the normally expected amount of force applied?

a. Yes >>> Perform the repair procedure.

b. No >>> This bulletin does not apply. Further diagnosis is required.

If a customer's VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair based on the above diagnosis.
