Carburetor Regulator Test

1. Connect a tachometer to engine and increase engine speed to 2000 RPM on front wheel drive models or 1500 RPM on rear wheel drive models.
2. Disconnect regulator solenoid connector from solenoid. On front wheel drive models without A/C, disconnect green wire only. Do not disconnect the idle solenoid. This can also be done by disconnecting the connector at the module.
3. Average engine speed should increase about 50 RPM.
4. Reconnect regulator solenoid connector. Engine should slowly return to speed set in step 1.
5. Disconnect six pin electrical connector on front wheel drive models, or 12 pin electrical connector from fuel control computer. Using a jumper wire, connect pin 15 at harness connector to ground. Engine speed should decrease a minimum of 50 RPM. If not, check for air leaks, or carburetor.
