This bulletin supersedes Technical Service Bulletin 21-10-86. This revision expands bulletin 21-10-86 to include all subject model vehicles built prior to October 22, 1986.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Transfer gear set noise (high pitched whine) from the automatic transaxle during coast down in the 45-35 mph range.
DIAGNOSIS
Vehicle should be evaluated on a smooth quiet road surface, and be warmed up to normal operating temperatures.
Accelerate past 45 mph and coast through the 45-35 mph range, checking for a high pitched whine. If the whine is present, replace the gearshift control cable.
PARTS REQUIRED
1 Gearshift Control Cable PN 4377301
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove old gearshift control cable, using appropriate service manual.
2. Replace with new cable, PN 4377301. Route the cable between the carpet and the underlayment.
3. Adjust gearshift linkage according to appropriate service manual.
4. Road test to verify proper operation.
