SYMPTOM/CONDITION

A condition of an off idle hesitation may occur during rapid "wide open throttle" acceleration from rest with a warm engine. This condition is worse with the air conditioning on and in ambients above 85~ F.

DIAGNOSIS

Thorough diagnosis should be performed using the Driveability Test Procedure. If no problem is found, it will be necessary to disconnect accelerator pump to properly diagnose problem. The accelerator pump will only be disconnected for diagnosis and must be reconnected before continuing with this procedure. Disconnect accelerator pump by removing the pump cover attaching screws; remove pump assembly and take out accelerator pump spring. Reinstall pump without spring and tighten screws. Road test vehicle. If the hesitation is reduced, continue with procedure.

CAUTION: BE SURE TO REINSTALL ACCELERATOR PUMP SPRING.

2. Disconnect choke operating rod (Figure 1).

FIGURE 2 - REMOVING THE O2 FEEDBACK SOLENOID:

3. Remove O2 feedback solenoid retaining screws and lift out solenoid from air horn (Figure 2).

FIGURE 3 - REMOVING THE AIRHORN:

4. Remove five air horn attaching screws and separate air horn from carburetor body (Figure 3).

FIGURE 4 - REMOVING THE ACCELERATOR PUMP DISCHARGE NOZZLE:

5. Remove accelerator pump discharge nozzle screw, discharge nozzle, and both gaskets (Figure 4).

6. Install new accelerator pump discharge nozzle, PN 4411993, using the two new discharge nozzle gaskets, PN 4411992, supplied.
7. Reinstall the air horn assembly using supplied gasket, PN 4293836.

FIGURE 5 - INSTALLING NEW O-RING ON O2 FEEDBACK SOLENOID:

8. Position supplied O2 feedback solenoid gasket, PN 4271873, on the air horn. Install new O-ring, PN 4267165, on feedback solenoid (Figure 5). Lightly lubricate O-ring with white grease and carefully install solenoid into air horn. Reinstall solenoid attaching screws and tighten.
9. Reinstall air cleaner assembly.
