Verification Test

After completion of the retrofit package installation, the following water test must be conducted to verify correct installation and fit of the new components.

Test Procedure

The following procedure requires a minimum of two people.

The procedure requires the use of a flashlight, a grease pencil and a 1/2 or 3/4 inch hose without a nozzle and standard water pressure.

One person should be inside the vehicle with a flashlight as an observer and another should operate the hose from the outside.

Apply the following steps in order to test for water leaks in a consistent manner for both sides of the vehicle.

Latch the top, roll the windows up, close the doors, and then water test at the following intervals in the areas shown on the diagram. Read the procedures first for accuracy and perform each in continuous fashion.

Use a 1/2 or 3/4 inch hose to direct a steady stream of water ten inches from the target areas. The stream should be aimed at right angles to the surface at all times. Refer to Fig. 24 to identify the following test areas.

AREA A. 30 SECONDS TOTAL

Beginning 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) inboard of the windshield A-pillar, direct a stream of water at the base of the windshield (Fig. 24). Gradually move rearward in a straight line for 30 seconds (or roughly 25.4 mm [1 in.] per second). Go immediately to B...

AREA B. 60 SECONDS TOTAL

Beginning 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) inboard of the windshield A-pillar, direct a stream of water at the forward edge of the exterior molding. Immediately begin moving to the opposite side of the exterior molding and onto the top cover material. Continue moving back and forth in this manner for 60 seconds. Go immediately to C...

AREA C. 30 SECONDS TOTAL

Beginning 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) inboard of the edge of the top cover, direct a stream of water to the front of the top cover. Gradually move rearward in a straight line for 30 seconds (or roughly 1 1/2 in. [38 mm] per second) to the midpoint above the quarter window.

Verification Inspection Procedure

1. Inspect for water entry (drips or runs into the vehicle interior) at any point along this path using a flashlight. Mark the entry points with a grease pencil for reference later. (Mark only on the interior with the grease pencil and make light outline.)

2. Make the necessary repairs and/or adjustments as required referring back to the appropriate steps in the repair procedure and then repeat the verification test.
