SUBJECT:
Convertible Top Boot Difficult To Install
MODELS:
1991-1992 (AP) Shadow Convertible
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
On some of the subject vehicles convertible top boot installation may be difficult. The position of the top stack downstops may prevent the top from going down far enough to allow easy installation of the boot. Adjusting the top stack height downward will ease boot installation.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This procedure outlines the adjustment of the convertible top stack downstops.
1. Lower the door glass, unlatch and lower the top.
2. Measure the vertical distance from the center, forward edge of the rear belt molding to the leading edge of the No. 1 bow (Fig. 1). This dimension should not exceed 3 1/2 in. (90 mm) (Fig. 2).
3. Raise the top halfway and reach into the quarter panel area to locate the downstops (Fig. 3). The water panel can be moved out of the way as necessary.
4. Turn the downstops clockwise to reach the necessary top stack height with the top in the down position. The downstops must be adjusted evenly to maintain a balanced fit to the top stack.
5. Repeat Step 2-4 as necessary.
Policy: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
