THEORY OF OPERATION:
In 1989-96 MY vehicles, the back-up lamps are activated through a relay controlled by the Park/Neutral Position Switch, PRNDL Switch, and the Transmission Control Module (TCM). When the gearshift selector is in the Reverse position, the Back-Up Lamp Relay is energized, activating the back-up lamps. In 1996-98 MY vehicles, the back-up lamps are activated through the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS). The Park/Neutral Position Switch, PRNDL Switch, and Back-Up Lamp Relay have been replaced by the Transmission Range Range Sensor (TRS). The back-up lamps are directly activated by the TRS.
