Non-Trouble Code Procedures

On vehicles which have experienced an air bag system deployment, certain SRS components must be replaced.

After all collisions, minor or major, inspect system.

Check and replace air bag system components if any visible signs of damage, dents, cracks or deformation. Inspect and replace each of following components as required.

1. Front Impact Sensors.
a. Check front upper frame lower for deformities or rust.
b. Check front impact sensors for dents, cracks or deformities.
c. Check sensor harness for binds, connectors for damage and terminals for deformities.

2. Air Bag Control Module (ACM) (Air bag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM)).
a. Check control unit case and brackets for dents, cracks or deformities.
b. Check connectors and lock lever for damage and terminals for deformities.

3. Air Bag Module.
a. Check pad cover for dents, cracks or deformities.
b. Check hooks and connectors for damage, terminals deformities and harness for binds.
c. Check air bag inflator case for dents, cracks or deformities.
d. Install air bag module on steering wheel to check fit or alignment with wheel.

4. Clockspring.
a. Check clockspring connectors and protective tube for damage and terminals for deformities.
b. Visually check case and gears for damage.

5. Steering Wheel, Steering Column and Intermediate Joint.
a. Check wiring harness built into steering wheel and connectors for damage and terminals for deformities.
b. Install air bag module on steering wheel to check fit or alignment with wheel.
c. Check steering wheel for noise, binds or difficult operation and excessive freeplay.

6. Body and Front Wiring Harness.
a. Check harness for binding, connectors for damage, poor connections and terminals for deformities.

7. Airbag Warning Lamp Operation
a. Turn ignition switch to the On position.
b. If the airbag warning lamp does not light, test the system using a scan tool.
c. If the airbag warning lamp lights, but fails to go out after ten seconds, test the system using a scan tool.
d. Repair the system as necessary.
