The starter control circuit consists of start solenoid, starter relay, ignition switch, neutral safety switch and all related wiring and connections.STARTER SOLENOID TEST
1. Verify battery is fully charged and in good condition.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Inspect starter and starter solenoid for corrosion and loose wiring.
4. Lower vehicle.
5. Locate starter relay as follows:
a. Except on except Acclaim, LeBaron Landau, Sundance, Shadow and Spirit, the starter relay is located in the power distribution center mounted near the LH strut tower.
b. On Acclaim, LeBaron Landau, Sundance, Shadow and Spirit, the starter relay is located on the front of the LH strut tower.
6. Remove starter relay from connector.
7. Connect a remote starter switch or a jumper wire between the battery positive post and terminal 87 on starter relay connector.
8. If engine cranks, starter and starter solenoid is operating correctly, perform starter relay test.
9. If engine does not crank or solenoid chatters, check wiring and connectors from relay to starter for loose or corroded connections.
10. Repeat test and, if engine still does not crank properly, repair or replace starter or starter solenoid as necessary.
STARTER RELAY TEST
Starter Relay Testing:
1. Verify battery is fully charged and in good condition.
2. Perform starter solenoid test.
3. Locate and remove starter relay as follows:
a. On except Acclaim, LeBaron Landau, Sundance, Shadow and Spirit, the starter relay is located in the power distribution center mounted near the LH strut tower.
b. On Acclaim, LeBaron Landau, Sundance, Shadow and Spirit, the starter relay is located on the front of the LH strut tower.
4. Perform starter relay test shown.
Ignition Switch Test
IGNITION SWITCH TEST
After testing starter solenoid and relay, test ignition switch and wiring. Check all wiring for opens or shorts and all connectors for being loose or corroded.
