SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

1. Shudder when initially accelerating from a stop (DTC's 36, 51 and/or 57).

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves installing all new seals and gaskets that include revised OD, reverse, 2/4 and underdrive clutch seals and replacing all clutch plates if necessary.

1. Using the procedures outlined in the appropriate Service Manual, remove the transaxle from the vehicle and install the appropriate package specified in the Parts Required section of this bulletin.

2. During the transaxle disassembly, inspect the oil pump assembly for presence of friction material. If friction material is present, it is necessary to replace the torque convertor (Use the appropriate Mopar Parts Catalog to select the correct torque convertor part number) and bypass valve, P/N 4539880, if so equipped.

3. During the re-assembly, be sure to check and adjust as necessary all clutch clearances. For this repair, the preferred Low/Reverse clutch clearance is between 0.89 mm (.035 in.) and 1.04 mm (.042 in.).

4. The seals used for low/reverse clutch piston, 2/4 clutch piston have been revised to D-ring type seals. Under NO circumstances, use a lip type seal for these applications.

5. If friction material was found in the transaxle oil pan or the oil pump assembly, reverse flush and flow check the oil cooler and tubes using Miller Tool 6906 (follow the instructions provided with the tool).

6. Using the procedures outlined in the appropriate Service Manual, re-assemble the transaxle, install the transaxle into vehicle and adjust the transaxle fluid level.
