Component Tests and General Diagnostics

When Airbag Has Been Deployed

1. Replace the following components:
a. Front impact sensors.
b. Airbag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM).
c. Airbag module.
d. Clockspring.
e. Steering wheel, steering column and intermediate joint.
2. Check all harnesses for binding, connectors for damage, poor connections and terminals for deformities.
3. Inspect all wiring harnesses as outlined under "Wiring Harness & Connector Repair Procedure."


When Airbag Has Not Deployed

Check and replace airbag system components if any visible signs of damage, dents, cracks or deformation. Inspect and replace each of the following components as required.
1. Front Impact Sensors.
a. Check front upper frame lower for deformities or rust.
b. Check front impact sensors for dents, cracks or deformities.
c. Check sensor harness for binds, connectors for damage and terminals for deformities.
2. Airbag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM).
a. Check control unit case and brackets for dents, cracks or deformities.
b. Check connectors and lock lever for damage and terminals for deformities.
3. Airbag Module.
a. Check pad cover for dents, cracks or deformities.
b. Check hooks and connectors for damage, terminals deformities and harness for binds.
c. Check airbag inflator case for dents, cracks or deformities.
d. Install airbag module on steering wheel to check fit and alignment with wheel.
4. Clockspring.
a. Check clockspring connectors and protective tube for damage and terminals for deformities.
b. Visually check the case and gears for damage.
5. Steering Wheel, Steering Column and Intermediate Joint.
a. Check wiring harness built into steering wheel and connectors for damage and terminals for deformities.
b. Install airbag module on steering wheel to check fit and alignment with wheel.
c. Check steering wheel for noise, binding, difficult operation or excessive freeplay.
6. Body and Front Wiring Harness.
a. Check harness for binding, connectors for damage, poor connections and terminals for deformities.
