Disassembly and Assembly

41TE TRANSAXLE

VALVE BODY

DISASSEMBLY

NOTE: If valve body assembly is being reconditioned, the PCM/TCM Quick Learn Procedure must be performed.





1. Remove manual shaft seal (Fig. 342).





2. Remove Transmission Range Sensor retaining screw (Fig. 343).





3. Remove Manual Shaft/Rooster Comb and Transmission Range Sensor (Fig. 344).





4. Remove 2/4 Accumulator Retaining Plate (Fig. 345).





5. Remove 2/4 Accumulator components as shown in (Fig. 346).





6. Remove Valve Body to Transfer Plate screws (Fig. 347).





7. Invert assembly and remove Transfer Plate (Fig. 348). Beware of loose check balls.





8. Remove oil screen (Fig. 349).





9. Remove the overdrive clutch (#5) check valve (Fig. 350).





10. Remove separator plate (Fig. 351).





11. Remove thermal valve (Fig. 352).





12. Remove check balls (Fig. 353).

NOTE: Tag all valve/spring assemblies for reassembly identification.





13. Remove dual retainer plate using Tool 6301 (Fig. 354).





14. Remove regulator valve spring retainer (Fig. 355).





15. Remove remaining retainers as shown in (Fig. 356).





16. Remove valves and springs as shown in (Fig. 357).

NOTE: Refer to Valve Body Cleaning and Inspection for cleaning procedures.

ASSEMBLY

NOTE: If valve body assembly is reconditioned, the PCM/TCM Quick Learn Procedure must be performed.

1. Install valves and springs as shown in (Fig. 357).





2. Install regulator valve spring retainer (Fig. 358).





3. Install dual retainer plate using Tool 6301 (Fig. 359).





4. Verify that all retainers are installed as shown in (Fig. 360). Retainers should be flush or below valve body surface.





5. Install check balls into position as shown in (Fig. 361). If necessary, secure them with petrolatum or transmission assembly gel for assembly ease.





6. Install thermal valve into transfer plate (Fig. 362).





7. Install separator plate to valve body (Fig. 363).





8. Install the overdrive clutch (#5) check valve to separator plate (Fig. 364)





9. Install oil screen to separator plate (Fig. 365).





10. Install transfer plate to valve body and separator plate. Make sure oil screen and #5 check valve do not bind (Fig. 366).





11. Install twenty-four transfer plate to valve body screws (Fig. 367) and torque to 5 Nm (45 inch lbs.).





12. Install 2/4 Accumulator components as shown in (Fig. 368).





13. Torque 2/4 Accumulator retainer to 5 Nm (45 inch lbs.) (Fig. 369).





14. Install Manual Shaft/Rooster Comb and Transmission Range Sensor (Fig. 370).





15. Make sure Manual Valve control pin is contained within the rooster comb slot (Fig. 371). Install Transmission Range Sensor retaining screw (Fig. 371) and torque to 5 Nm (45 inch lbs.).





16. Install manual shaft seal (Fig. 372).
