Instrument Cluster Indicators - Description
DESCRIPTION
The instrument cluster assembly has provisions for up to 28 International Control and Display Symbol icon indicators that are all controlled by the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), and standard on all models. Some of the indicators are automatically configured when the IPC is connected to the vehicle's electrical system for compatibility with certain optional equipment or equipment required for regulatory purposes in certain markets. While each instrument cluster may have provisions for indicators to support every available option, the configurable indicators will not function in vehicles that do not have the equipment that an indicator supports.
The instrument cluster includes provisions for the following indicators:
- Airbag Indicator (35)
- Ajar Indicators (21)
- Antilock Brake System (ABS) Indicator (20)
- Brake Indicator (17) - text only for U.S. market, icon only for markets outside U.S.
- Change Oil Indicator (13)
- Charging Indicator (4)
- Cruise Indicator (2)
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC) OFF Indicator (18)
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC) System Activation Indicator (19)
- Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Indicator (10)
- Engine Coolant Temperature Indicator (15)
- Front Fog Lamp Indicator (29) - with optional front fog lamps only
- Fuel Saver Indicator (ECO) (24) - textual message in Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) display.
- Gear Selector Indicator (9) - with automatic transmission only
- High Beam Indicator (31)
- Low Fuel Indicator (30)
- Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (14)
- No Bus Indicator - textual message in EVIC display (9)
- No Fuse Indicator - textual message in EVIC display (9)
- Rear Fog Lamp Indicator (6) - with rear fog lamps in certain markets only
- Seat Belt Indicator (3)
- Security Indicator (23)
- Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) Indicator (11)
- Turn Signal (Right and Left) Indicators (16 and 33)
- Wait-To-Start Indicator (27) - with diesel engine only
The instrument cluster also includes the following Vacuum Florescent Display (VFD) units:
- Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) Display (9) - includes Push Button controls at the right of the IPC unit.

Each indicator in the instrument cluster, except those located within a VFD unit, is illuminated by a dedicated Light Emitting Diode (LED) that is soldered onto the IPC electronic circuit board. Cluster illumination is accomplished by several dimmable LED units, which illuminate each of the gauge dial faces for visibility when the exterior lighting is turned ON. These LED units as well as the IPC module are serviced only as a complete unit, and if damaged or ineffective the entire assembly must be replaced. The cluster lens and hood unit are the only components of the instrument cluster assembly that can be serviced separately.
