BETAMATE REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES

Betamate areas will require the following procedures to maintain proper specifications to the locations in which it was applied.

NOTE: To ensure proper weld integrity is achieved, adjust welding equipment to proper specifications as found in the Weld and Weld Bonding section.

Sill Reinforcement / Rocker

1. With the use of a grinder equipped with a 50 grit grinding disc, remove all contaminants and coatings off of the mating surfaces within 25mm (1in.) of the area where Betamate was originally applied. The metal should be completely bare and shiny in appearance, if the metal appears pewter in color all of the galvanized coating has not been removed.
2. Pre-fit panels into place to ensure a proper fit.
3. Remove the components and then apply a 10mm (3/8in.) bead of Lords Fusor (R) 112B or equivalent, ensuring the mating surfaces are completely covered.
4. Clamp tightly into place, using welding clamps or equivalent.
5. Use a spot welder to apply Resistance Type Spot Welds at double the weld pitch (twice as many welds as originally used) as they are before and after the zone.
6. Once adhesive has completely cured apply quality topcoats to the exposed areas.
7. Inject Moper Cavity wax kit (part #68042969AA), Mopar wax refill (part #68042970AA) or equivalent, to the inner cavity. A double application should be applied. Allow a minimum of 30-minutes flash time between the first and second coats.

Center Roof Bow (500)

CAUTION: Procedure will require overhead welds within the interior, Extreme care needs be taken to protect the interior and exterior from weld splatter and sparks

1. Pre-fit components into place to ensure a proper fit.
2. Scribe the roof bow (1) along the bottom edge where it meets the B-pillar perch (2). This is where two 20mm MIG weld beads (4) will be placed.
3. Remove bow (1) then grind all contaminants and coatings off of the mating surfaces within 25mm (1in.) of the area. The metal should be completely bare and shiny in appearance, if the metal appears pewter in color all of the galvanized coating has not been completely removed.
4. Place 20mm seam welds along the two designated areas (4).
5. Clean and dress welds as necessary.
6. Apply quality topcoats to the exposed areas.

Inner B-pillar Reinforcement / Outer B-pillar Reinforcement

Quarter Panel Extension / B-Pillar Reinforcement

Quarter Panel Extension / C-Pillar Reinforcement

1. With the use of a grinder equipped with a 50 grit grinding disc, remove all contaminants and coatings off of the mating surfaces within 25mm (1in.) of the area where Betamate was originally used. The metal should be completely bare and shiny in appearance, if the metal appears pewter in color all of the galvanized coating has not been removed.
2. With the use of a drill, equipped with a 8mm (5/16in.) drill bit, drill two staggered rows of four holes each. These holes will be used for plug welds.
3. Remove any burrs caused by the drilling from the mating surface.
4. Clamp tightly into place using welding clamps or equivalent.
5. Apply MIG welds with a properly adjusted welder.
6. Clean and dress welds as necessary.
7. Apply quality topcoats to the exposed areas.
8. Inject Moper Cavity wax kit (part #68042969AA), Mopar wax refill (part #68042970AA) or equivalent, to the inner cavity. A double application should be applied. Allow a minimum of 30-minutes flash time between the first and second coats.

B-Pillar Reinforcement / C-Pillar Reinforcement

The Betamate Adhesive that was originally applied in the C-pillar Reinforcement to the B-pillar Reinforcement lap joint will be completely deleted. Substitute Betamate Adhesive with the use of additional plug welds.

The three original factory welds (3) used in the joint, will be accompanied with six additional welds. The six additional welds (4) will be 5mm plug welds, placed in locations as shown.

Inner Wheelhouse

1. With the use of a grinder equipped with a 50 grit grinding disc, remove all contaminants and coatings off of the mating surfaces within 25mm (1in.) of the area where Betamate was originally applied.
