Body - Water Leaking Onto Engine Cover

BULLETIN APPLICABILITY NOTE.

THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS ALSO BEING RELEASED AS RAPID RESPONSE
TRANSMITTAL (RRT) 12-021. ALL APPLICABLE SOLD AND UN-SOLD RRT VIN's
HAVE BEEN LOADED. TO VERIFY THAT THIS RRT SERVICE ACTION IS
APPLICABLE TO THE VEHICLE, USE VIP OR PERFORM A VIN SEARCH IN

SUBJECT:
Water On Top Of Engine Cover

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves enlarging the center push pin hole in the cowl panel and installing a grommet to prevent water intrusion around the push pin retaining clip.

MODELS:
2012(FF)Fiat 500 (Includes International Markets)

NOTE:
**This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with automatic transmission only built between December 7, 2010 (MDH 1207XX) and July, 8, 2011 (MDH 0708XX).**

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience water and/or water marks on top of the engine cover.

DIAGNOSIS:





The source of the water intrusion onto the top of the engine cover (1) may be caused by the center push pin hole (3) in the cowl panel (2) that secures the cowl panel cover (4) (Fig. 1). If a customers VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove both front wiper arms (2) (Fig. 2). Refer to the detailed procedures available in DealerConnect > TechCONNECT > under: Service Info > 08-Electrical > Wipers/Washers > Arm, Wiper > Removal > Front.

2. Remove the cowl panel cover (1) (Fig. 2). Refer to the detailed procedures available in DealerConnect > TechCONNECT > under: Service Info > 23-Body > Exterior > Cover, Cowl Panel > Removal.





3. Remove the engine cover (3) (Fig. 2).





4. Locate the center push pin hole (1) in the cowl panel that the clip was removed from in order to remove the cowl panel cover (Fig. 3).

5. Use a (7.5mm) drill to enlarge the center push pin hole in the cowl (1) to accept the push clip grommet (Fig. 3).





6. Install the push clip grommet (1) into the enlarged center push pin hole (2) in the cowl.





7. Reinstall the cowl panel cover (1) (Fig. 5). Refer to the detailed procedures available in DealerConnect > TechCONNECT > under: Service Info > 23-Body > Exterior > Cover, Cowl Panel > Installation.

8. Reinstall both front wiper arms (2) (Fig. 5). Refer to the detailed procedures available in DealerConnect >TechCONNECT > under: Service Info > 08-Electrical > Wipers/Washers > Arm, Wiper > Installation > Front.

9. Reinstall the engine cover (3) (Fig. 5).
