1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system and engine oil.
2. Scribe hood hinge locations and remove hood, if necessary.
3. Remove throttle body inlet tubes and air conditioning compressor and condenser.
4. Disconnect heater hoses from water pump and coolant housing, then the flexible fuel line from fuel pump.
5. Remove radiator (if necessary), fan, viscous fan drive, water pump pulley and drive belt.
6. Disconnect cable retracting spring and accelerator cable from throttle body.
7. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect kickdown cable from throttle body.
8. On models equipped with power brakes, disconnect vacuum line from intake manifold.
9. On all models, disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold. Disconnect body ground strap and battery ground cable from engine.
10. Disconnect EEC harness from all sensors and the engine wiring harness from ignition coil, temperature sending unit and oil pressure sending unit. Position harnesses aside.
11. Remove alternator mounting bolts and position alternator aside.
12. On models equipped with power steering, remove power steering pump from mounting brackets and position pump aside, right side up.
13. On all models, remove coil bracket attaching bolts and position coil aside.
14. Remove rocker arm cover and loosen rocker arm stud nuts so rocker arms can be rotated to one side.
15. Remove push rods in order so they may be installed in original position.
16. Disconnect ignition wires from spark plugs, then remove cylinder head attaching bolts.
17. Remove cylinder head, intake and exhaust manifold assemblies using suitable lifting equipment. Lifting eye locations are shown in Fig. 18.
18. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten cylinder head bolts in three steps and in sequence shown in Fig. 18, to specifications. Tighten intake and exhaust manifold bolts to specifications in sequence shown in Fig. 12.
