Subject: Initial Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) Replacement Decal Index for 1989-Model Year Vehicles

Attached is the initial index for 1989-model year Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) replacement decals. This index will assist you in the selection and ordering of replacement decals when required.

The replacement VECI decal program was first announced in November, 1980, and was established to accommodate customer and dealership requests for replacement VECI decals. Because these decals provide a readily available source for engine tune-up specifications, Ford Motor Company will provide the decals for a ten year period for each model year beginning with 1980- model year vehicles.

The attached index is for 1989-model year vehicles only. Indexes for 1980 through 1988-model year vehicles were previously distributed. Please contact your Ford Parts and Service Division District Office if you require a copy of any of these indexes.

Car and Truck Engine/Emissions Facts Booklet Summary (Basic Form 12096) is published annually to provide engine tune-up specifications. Since the material in that booklet is closely related to the information provided in the attached index, you are asked to file the index with the appropriate model-year booklet for reference purposes.

How to Order a Replacement VECI Decal (1980-89 Model Year Vehicles)

Look for the engine identification decal, which is usually located on the engine rocker arm cover or on the driver-side door pillar (this decal contains the engine code and engine calibration number). Using the attached index for 1989-model year vehicles, or the appropriate model year index, find the car line and engine size, then determine the correct replacement VECI decal by using either the engine code or calibration number. Enter the VECI decal part number, vehicle identification number (VIN) and your dealership P&A code in the spaces provided on the enclosed order postcard and mail it. Decals will be sent to you by mail within a short time. You may also determine the correct replacement decal by inspecting the damaged decal currently on the vehicle.
How to Order Replacement VECI Decals (Cont'd.)

In those cases where the VECI decal is damaged, missing or destroyed, it will be necessary to use "OASIS" to determine the engine calibration number. If you are unable to determine a vehicle engine calibration, complete the order form (Attachment I). Mail the form to the address indicated. In these instances, do not use the order postcard as this will delay the order. Allow approximately 4-6 weeks for delivery of decals ordered. Please contact your FPSD District Office if you require additional quantities of the form.

Additional Requirements for Ordering Decals

You have been advised in prior letters that you must provide the vehicle identification number (VIN) for which vehicle requiring a replacement decal. You were also provided a quantity of a revised order postcard that contained blank spaces for the VIN and your dealership P&A code. The postcard also restricts orders to one decal per order.

YOU ARE CAUTIONED TO TAKE ADEQUATE MEASURES TO ASSURE THAT VECI DECALS ARE ORDERED CORRECTLY AND USAGE IS ACCURATELY CONTROLLED TO PRECLUDE POSSIBLE VIOLATION OF FEDERAL OR CALIFORNIA EMISSION REGULATIONS.

This program is intended only for ordering replacement Vehicle Emission Control Information decals. Other decals affixed to vehicles may be available through parts distribution centers. Use your "Dealer's Weekly Stock Order Pad" (FPS 1935) to order these decals.

Questions regarding this program should be directed to your Ford Parts and Service Division District Office.

USE THIS FORM TO ORDER REPLACEMENT VECI DECALS WHEN DECALS ARE DAMAGED, DESTROYED OR MISSING.
